Dale Francis Horneck, age 84, of rural Kiel "School Hill" - died on Feb. 25, 2022

Dale was welcomed home to heaven by his sons David and Davis Horneck. He was born in the Town of Rhine on Oct. 12, 1937, to Francis and Genevieve (Wojciehowski) Horneck. Dale grew up on the family farm and attended Kiel High School where he played football and baseball. After his father fell ill, Dale had to quit high school to run the family farm. He later joined the US Navy where he was a firefighter. During his time of travel in the navy Dale had the memorable experience of seeing Elvis Presley perform.

After returning he met the love of his life, Darlene Waack at the Kiel picnic in 1960. They dated and got engaged on Valentine's Day in 1961 and married later that year. The wedding was planned for November but then moved to Oct.28th because Darlene's brother Melvin was leaving for duty in the US Army. Dale and Darlene had 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls. Dale always said, "If Darlene wanted a girl, I gave her a girl and if she wanted a boy I gave her a boy". He was always pretty accurate at guessing the sex of unborn babies too! Dale worked at Kohler Company for 44 years, retiring in 1999. He also had many side carpentry jobs, some alongside Arno Hickman.

Dale enjoyed the outdoors. Everything from making wood for his wood burning stoves, to hunting, trap shooting and fishing especially the trips with his nephew Danny and brother in law Goose, to Lake Winnibigoshish MN. Dale also liked camping with his family at Grand Valley campground, where he played washers and Kubb. He was even known to get on a bicycle to go for more beer at the cabin if needed. The July 4th yard camping was also a fun time for him as people would stop by to visit or family came to get in on the washers tournament complete with wrestle backs and live mud wrestling! Dale loved playing and watching all kinds of sports. He played and umped softball and was involved in league bowling and couples bowling and throwing horseshoes. He was also part of the Kiel High School football "Chain Gang" for many years. He enjoyed watching his sons wrestle, run cross country, and race cars to then watch his grandkids wrestle, run, play football, hockey & soccer. They could always see grandpa "standing" the whole time watching them.

Dale was gifted in art, whether it was his woodworking skills, sketching a picture or braiding his daughter's hair. He will be remembered for so many great things beside the loving man: his laugh, love of beer and polka music, a good game of cribbage, chewing Copenhagen back in the day, being the Mayor of School Hill, sitting in his garage in the sun with his pants legs rolled up, his forever finding ways to silicone something, telling a joke as only he can, his hat collection and Miller girl posters in the basement, always having a nice vehicle (from a convertible, to a Gran Torino stick, to a Ranchero, some large family cars and then all the trucks) he had. And last but not least, it is his wet willys we will miss every time he would say goodbye.

Dale is survived by his wife of 60 years, Darlene; his children, Dawn (Paul) Williams, Daphne (Tony) Grybush, Daisy (Ross) Sippel, Davin "Puck" (Jessica) Horneck; a daughter in law Chris (Tim) Sommers, 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and 3 more on the way; a brother Dean (Cindy) Horneck, brothers-in-law and sisters in law, Linda Horneck, Lila Horneck, Fredrick Krause, Melvin & Elaine Waack, Corky & Diane Fidlin, Butch & Bonnie Waack and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by 2 sons, David & Davis; his parents; 1 sister, Geraldine (Clinton) Blanke; 2 brothers Garry and Roger Horneck; mother-in-law and father in law, Norbert and Esther Waack; and a sister in law, Dolores Krause.

Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 11608 Lax Chapel Road, Kiel, Wisconsin 53042. Rev. Roy Rogers will preside. Burial will take place in the Union Cemetery in the Town of Schleswig.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit with Dale's family at the church Tuesday, March 1st from 2:00 PM until 4:30 PM.

A special thank you to his Godson Jason Fidlin and Marshall Harris Jr for the extra care they provided. A memorial will be established in his name.
