Benjamin Holmes was a son of Nathaniel Holmes and his wife, Sarah Pettee. Benjamin served as a Sgt. in the Revolutionary War. He was married 10 Feb. 1780, to Elizabeth Weeks of Hardwick, MA.
Benjamin and his brother, Stephen, moved from Clarendon, VT, in 1787, and were among the first settlers of Georgia, Franklin Co., VT.
Benjamin and his wife, Elizabeth, were Baptists, and Col. Holmes was ordained a deacon when that church was organized in Georgia, Vt. He also represented the town of Georgia for 10 years, and was chosen to handle many important trusts. He died of heart-disease, Feb. 14, 1817.
