On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, Terry Glenn McCarthy Sr. departed from this earthly life at his home in Jamestown, LA, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 5, 1940 to Ethel Bates McCarthy and William Gerald McCarthy in Castor, Louisiana, and married Gloria Parker McCarthy, his beloved wife of 60 years, on October 12, 1962. Almost two years later, on April 14, 1964, they welcomed their only son, Terry Glenn McCarthy, Jr.

Terry started his career as a welder at Dunham Manufacturing before embarking on a long career with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry. Before he retired, Terry worked in the Sailes Lookout Tower, keeping a close watch for fires in the surrounding pine forest. He was a longtime member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Throughout his life, Terry was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to fish and hunt, filling the freezers of his family with white perch perfect for frying. He also kept an incredible garden, growing everything from watermelons to hot peppers, the latter of which he loved trying to convince his grandkids — to whom he was known as "Dat" — to eat. He enjoyed watching westerns and cracking jokes, especially with his family.

Terry is preceded in death by his mother, Ethel, father, Gerald, and brother, Dennis McCarthy. He is survived by his wife, Gloria McCarthy; son Glenn McCarthy, wife Lisa; two grandchildren, Amy McCarthy and husband Dave, Loftin Parker McCarthy and girlfriend Krystal; brother Mike McCarthy and his wife Judy, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will hold a visitation at New Ebenezer Baptist Church on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until a 11:00 A.M. Graveside Service in New Ebenezer Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Austin Hand. Pallbearers will be Parker McCarthy, Dave Bush, Michael McCarthy, Jason McCarthy, Richie McCarthy, Stephen Pate, and Sam Heron.

The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to LifePath Hospice Care and Hogan Professional Care Services, who provided compassionate care to Terry and his family at the end of his life.
