S. Shumaker Funeral Rites Are Scheduled
Samuel David Shumaker, 79, of Rt. 1, Novinger died at 9:30 Saturday morning (Aug. 20, 1977) at his home.
Adair County Coroner Ray Johnson and Deputy Sheriff Gene Crandall ruled death due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound and that it occurred at ten o'clock Saturday morning.
The son of Samuel and Augusta Curtis Shumaker, he was born in Adair county on Nov. 26, 1897. On Nov. 26, 1923 he was married to Nettie Zimmerman who preceded him in death on April 8, 1968. Also preceding him in death was an infant son.
Surviving are one son, Robert D. Shumaker of 1105 E. Randolph; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Ruby) Klingsmith of Novinger; one sister, Mary Buck of Rt. 1, Kirksville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Shumaker spent most of his life in Adair county. He resided in the Gifford community until 1948, when he moved to Kirksville. Since 1961 he had made his home at Rt. 1, Novinger.
For 15 years, Mr. Shumaker was employed as a parking meter reader for the City of Kirksville. Later he operated the City meter repair shop.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon (Aug. 23, 1977) at 2 o'clock in the chapel of the Foster Memorial Home. The Rev. Clyde McCollum will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Yarrow cemetery.
After six o'clock this evening the body will be at the funeral home.
Bearers will be: Frank Williams, John Lumsden, Lavern Bragg, Carl Zeigler, Keith Simler and C.C. Murdock.
