Three of Celestine & Minnie's children died tragically:
~ Agnes was fatally burned at the age of four.
~ Theresa died at the age of 14 in a car accident. Terence was also injured in this accident.
~ Terence died at the age of 25 in a car accident on the same road Theresa was killed on. His death was exactly ten years after Theresa's death.

HAYS - Celestine K "CA" Pfannenstiel, 91, died July 20, 1997, at St. John's of Hays Nursing Home. He was born Feb.27, 1906 at Munjor; The son of Alex and Anna Sauer Pfannenstiel.

A longtime Hays area resident, he was a farmer, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, Knights of Columbus Council No.4166, Schoenchen, Bishop Curningham Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Hays. He was a school board member for Good Hope school District No.24 for 33 years, was on the Church Committee of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, Antonino, and served on the township board of Pleasant Hill Township for many years.

On May 31, 1927, he married Philomena Rose "Minnie" Leiker at Munjor She died Jan. 6,1996.

Survivors include: three sons, Norbert, Salina, Harvey J., Westminister, Colo. and Clifford J, Hays; six daughters, Esther Wasinger, Marie Gabel, Posie Werth, Charlene Weithand Sandy Keil, all of Hays and Louise Dechant, Liebenthal; a brother, Fidelis, Hays; 36 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Lester and Terence; two daughters, Agnes and Therasa; four brothers, Nicolaus, Carl, Val and Connie; five sisters, Sophia Rupp, Clara Meier Katie Rupp, Matilda Gerstner and Rose Gross; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Adorers rosary will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, followed by Poor Souls of St. Nicholas Prayer Service at 3:30 p.m. Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by parish vigil at 7:30 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus combined with Schoenchen Knight of Columbus and Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, all at the funeral chapel. Funeral will be at 10:30 am. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hays, with Fathers Don Zimmerman, Eugene Kenny, Paleness Karlin and Carl Kramer presiding.

The Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 to 10:15 &m. Wednesday at the Amoral home. Burial will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery Antonino. Memorials may be sent to the cemetery or St. John's of Hays.
