STATESBORO - James Earl Alcott wanted to go "home" and he entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 18, 2008. Mr. Alcott was born on July 16, 1920 in Emanuel County, Ga to Elmore and Dora Alcott. He was one of twelve children. He was preceded in death by Geraldine Farrow Alcott, his wife of 44 years and by Louise Butler Alcott, his wife of 19 years. He was also preceded by his brothers, Willie, Virgil, Dan, Charlie, and Elmore and sisters, Annie Mae, Rosa Lee and Sybil. He is survived by his brother, Talmadge Alcott, and Sisters. Susie Stover, and Ollie Ruth Brown; three daughters, Carole (Jack) Smiley, Brenda (Jimmy) Bacon, and Mitzi (Tom) Campbell; three grandchildren, Jena (Brian) Albright, Ryan (Mackenzie) Pace, and Jared Bacon and seven great grandchildren. Mr. Alcott was a master barber who began his career in 1940 as a barber at Camp Stewart, Georgia and later operated 3 barber shops in Savannah. He retired after 54 years of service. He was a member of Coastal Cathedral Church of God and served the Church of God faithfully for 59 years. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ, his family and his church. He worked in the nursing home ministry in Chatham County for many years. Mr. Alcott's greatest legacy is one of profound generosity. He touched many lives for the Kingdom of God. He taught his children that one can never outgive God. The family would like to thank Vista Care Hospice for their service and support. They would like to especially thank Barbara Webb, Marcia Bray, Danny Smith, Ralph Cowart, Lizzie Hill, and Martha Williams for the wonderful care and love shown to Mr. Alcott. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fairhaven Funeral Home on Highway 80 in Savannah. Funeral services will be held at Coastal Cathedral on Wednesday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Dale Dyar officiating. Mr. Alcott's body will lie in state at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Larry Bennett, Randy Farrow, Don Farrow, Billy Farrow, Paul Canady, Lenny Pasquale, and Marvin Kersey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Royce Mosely, Troy Purvis, Kenneth Walters, Zeno Moore, Everett Odum, Donnie Gatch and Tommy Sikes. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Long Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery on Highway 192 near Summertown, Georgia.
