Growing up, he participated in the Boy Scouts, bowling leagues and Folklorico dancing. He received many academic achievement awards and was involved in several school clubs. After graduation, he moved to the state of Washington where he attended the University of Puget Sound and the University of Washington. He returned to Barstow a few years later where he also attended Barstow Community College Cosmetology School.
David held several jobs at the Barstow Outlets which include Polo Ralph Lauren, Wilson's Leather, Old Navy and the GAP. He also worked at the Commissary at Fort Irwin and was an administrative assistant at the Exchange. David also worked at Wal-Mart where he enjoyed interacting with people from the community.
David was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, cross-stitching, cleaning/organizing, and was an avid Cher and Barbara Streisand fan. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews, painting their nails, fixing things around the house, and gardening with them. They were the light of his life. David will be remembered for his willingness to always help a friend or family member in need. He was always friendly and shared his smile and laughter with anyone wherever he went.
David is survived by his father, Alfred Sauer Jr., sisters Terri Sauer, Kimberly Miller (Jason), and Kathleen Lillard (Kenny), nieces Jennifer (Gable) Spiteri, Brooke Miller, Aubrey Matthews, Arianna Matthews, and nephews Carter Miller and Jack Lillard. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemaria Sauer.
