Obituary for Rosemaria Inez Sauer
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease.
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

Rosemaria Inez Sauer, age 75, passed away peacefully at her home on January 17, 2021. Rosemaria was born January 27, 1945, in Belen, New Mexico to the late Jose and Cipriana Abeyta. The family later moved to Daggett in the late 1940's where she attended Daggett Elementary School.

While growing up, Rosemaria was nicknamed Rosie/Sister, as she was the only girl among six brothers. She graduated from Barstow Union High School in 1962. She continued her education at Barstow Community College and earned an associate degree in management in 1975.

Rosemaria married Alfred Sauer on June 6, 1975, and together they had four children. Rosemaria worked at the Marine Corps Logistic Base in Barstow, CA and retired in 2002 after 32 years of service. After retirement, she worked as a substitute paraeducator for Barstow Unified School District.

Her favorite job was being a grandma, she was always willing and wanting to spend time with her six grandchildren. She was their biggest cheerleader and always encouraged them to have fun and follow Jesus.

Rosemaria was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She volunteered many hours serving on the Parish Council and in retirement helped with Martha's Meals. Her children also attended St. Joseph Catholic School. There she served as a room mother, she was also a member and board member of the Parent Teacher Association.

Friends and family describe Rosemaria as a loving woman of faith, and you always knew she cared about others. In her free time, she enjoyed crafts, reading, cooking and watching sports, especially the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Rosemaria is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Cipriana Abeyta and her brother, Roy Gilbert Abeyta.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred George Sauer Jr., and their four children, Terri Sauer, David Sauer, Kimberly Miller (Jason) of Barstow, CA, and Kathleen Lillard (Kenny) of Beaumont, CA. Five brothers Paul Abeyta (Nancy) of Moreno Valley, CA, Melvin Abeyta (Olivia) of Highland, CA, Rudy Abeyta (Ingrid) of Port Orchard, WA, Lorenzo Abeyta (Vickie) of Watsonville, CA, and Anthony Abeyta (Gloria) of Hesperia, CA. She also leaves behind numerous other friends and family, including over 70 nieces and nephews, and cousins that she loved very much. Six grandchildren Jennifer Spiteri (R. J.), Carter and Brooke Miller of Barstow, CA, Aubrey and Arianna Matthews and Jack Lillard of Beaumont, CA. All will miss her very much.

Memorial services will be held in Barstow, California on Friday, March 5, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Reception to follow at the Miller home.
