Dorothy M. Nichols, age 89, of Manitowoc passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Angelus Assisted Living in Manitowoc surrounded by her loving children.

Dorothy was born on April 27, 1933 in the township of Cooperstown, Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Decker) Salta Sr. She graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1951 and graduated from Lakeshore Technical College with a degree in accounting.

On June 25, 1954 Dorothy married Robert P. Nichols. He preceded her in death on December 12, 2000.

She worked for the Mirro Company for 21 years. Dorothy was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and the former St. Mary's Catholic Church Rosary Society. Dorothy loved traveling including internationally, especially Japan. She visited the sister city of Manitowoc, Kamogawa, Japan with a federation of people from Manitowoc. She also enjoyed bus trips, playing games and spending time with her large family.

Dorothy is survived by her seven children, fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren: Robert (Jill) Nichols Jr., Middleton and their daughter: Katelyn Nichols, William (Judy) Nichols, Manitowoc and their children: Rachel (Jason) Lindgren and David Nichols, Susan (Paul) Nichols-Petska, Bellingham, WA and their children: Samuel (McKenzie) Petska and Laura (Billy) Howard, Karen Nichols, Manitowoc and her children: Christy (Vianney) Nyemeck, Adam (Sara) Juul, Lynn (Tom) Eaton, Manitowoc and their daughters: Sara (Daniel) Allen, Amanda (Ilya) Ksenidi and Stacy Eaton, Barbara Nichols, Two Rivers and her children: Harry (Christie) Marquardt, Robert Marquardt and Samantha Marquardt, Tina Nichols (fiancé Tim Browne), Two Rivers and her daughters: Emily (Gavin) LeGreve and Lydia Fessenbecker; one sister-in-law: Marilyn Salta, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Edward and Anna Salta Sr.; her husband: Robert P. Nichols; one granddaughter: Kirsten Vanderscheuren; four brothers and one sister-in-law: Pauly Salta, Romy (Darlene) Salta, Edward (Margie) Salta Jr. and Robert Salta; one sister: Violet Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 20, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, 1114 South 21st Street, Manitowoc. The Rev. Jason Blahnik will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial of her cremated remains to take place at a later date at Knollwood Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Dorothy's name to Canine Companions. The Lakeshore Family Funeral Homes, Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, Manitowoc location is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
