Charles R. "Rich" Long, of McSherrystown, entered into God's eternal care March 5.

He was the son of the late Charles J. and Clara (Irvin) Long.

Rich retired from R.H. Sheppard Co. in Hanover where he continued working part-time until his illness. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. Rich was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown, and he also held memberships at McSherrystown Home Association, McSherrystown Knights of Columbus, McSherrystown Moose, Republican Club, Catholic War Veterans of Bonneauville, and Hanover American Legion. He was a member of the former McSherrystown Fire Co., currently Southeastern Adams Volunteer Emergency Services (SAVES), and the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America.

He was the husband of Sally A. (Sanders) Long for the past 16 years, and Gloria A. (Noel) Long who departed this life December 6, 1988, and surviving are six children, Charles R. Long, Jr. and wife, Cynthia of Manchester MD, Robert K. Long and wife, Debra of Manheim Twp., Robbin Leonard and husband, Jim of McSherrystown, Rodney Long and wife, Jackie of McSherrystown, Dee Louglin and husband, Dennis of Hanover, and Kim Logue and husband, Donald of Dover; two stepchildren, Elizabeth Miranda and husband, Kenneth of McSherrystown, and Michael Hockensmith and wife, Denise of Hanover; 21 grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; three brothers, James F. Long and Ronald J. Long, both of McSherrystown, and Randy C. Long of Hanover; and three sisters, Pauline Gasswint of Hummelstown, Charlene Orndorff of Bonneauville, and Joyce Tedder of Abbottstown.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome F. Long and Louis Long.

Burial was with full military honors provided by the Hanover Allied Veteran Honor Guard.
