After her father's death in January 1926, her mother married James Mancil Jones in December 1926 in Portland, OR. Two younger sisters were born; Nellie May (1927) and Eva Ruth Jones (1928). Both of Sadie's brothers assumed the last name of Jones (but no record of formal adoption), but there is no record of Sadie using Jones as a last name. The military record on the headstone is her fifth husband's, Robert Adair not hers.
Sadie typically worked in taverns in the Portland area (according to our mother) and met servicemen whom she married with five of her six marriages coinciding or following the military fleet arriving for the Portland Rose Festival held in June and the numerous military servicemen arriving as part of that annual event. Many of her documents have a false place of birth, incorrect number of marriages (usually listed one) as well as her age (i.e. birthdate) was "revised" with every new marriage.
HUSBANDS, DATE OF MARRIAGE & CHILDREN:
1. Joseph M. Romeiko, June 27, 1938
(It is highly more likely that Romeiko is James M. Ayers (1938-44) birth father.)
2. Raymond H. Ross, June 5, 1939
3. Harold R. Ayers, November 10, 1941
Sons: James M. Ayers (1938-44), Terry Lee Ayers/Howell (1944-2007)
4. Cleave V. Howell, May 14, 1946
Son: John V. Howell (1947-2019)
5. Charles R. Williams, September 13, 1966
6. Robert D. Adair, July 30, 1969
She is buried with her last husband Robert D. Adair.
We welcome any additional information about Sadie and/or her family AND will reply to inquiries. Thank you.
