Melba H. Wahlen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Monday, July 31, 2023. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by her three loving daughters.
She was born February 2, 1929 in Slaterville, Utah to John Amos Holley and Eliza Edith Rich.
While in her senior year of high school she met the love of her life, George Edward Wahlen of Ogden, Utah. They married on August 16, 1946. Later their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on August 16, 1958. They were the very best of friends, sharing 63 wonderful years together before George's passing in 2009. She longed for their reunion together after being separated, knowing their marriage was eternal.
Shortly after their marriage, George enlisted in the Army and the two of them spent the next 23 years away from Utah raising their family. Three times they were separated while George served a tour of duty in Japan, Korea and Vietnam, leaving Melba the responsibility of nurturing their growing family. Their love for each other only became stronger during those times of separation. After George's retirement from the Army, they settled in Roy, Utah and their posterity continued to grow.
Melba's greatest joy was found in being a wife, mother, and grandmother. The things she treasured most were time spent with her family by sharing monthly family nights, yearly vacations, Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners and New Year's Eve parties with the entire family. She loved being involved with all her grandchildren's various activities and made each one feel as if they were her favorite. She would often say, " my family is my whole world".
Her faith was an important part of her life, serving in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Young Women's president, primary president, and relief society president. Following the example of the Savior, she always ministered to "The One"..
Melba spent the last four years of her life in the Sunridge Assisted Living Center in Roy, where she made the dearest of friends who loved and supported one another in their senior years. She loved each person she met and considered everyone a friend. She could always be found by listening for her contagious laugh.
Surviving are five children and their spouses, Jolene (Alan) Rogers, Christine (Blake) Anderson, Pam (Jim) Riley, Blake (Jana) Wahlen, Brock (Pam) Wahlen, and 26 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George, parents, two brothers, six sisters, three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The family expresses thanks to the Davis Hospital doctors and staff and the Sunridge Assisted Living Care Center for the loving care they have provided.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 5th at 11 am at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, Roy, Utah.
The family will meet with friends Friday, August 4th from 6 to 8 pm at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
