Perry Guinn Murphrey
July 8, 1950 - August 8, 2023

Perry Guinn Murphrey entered his Heavenly Home on August 3, 2023. He began his earthly journey on July 8, 1950 in Haskell County, Texas, born to Pearl Inez (Chandler) and Edwin Russell Murphrey. Perry grew up between Forreston and Waxahachie on a cotton farm with his family, who he was close to all of his life. A loving brother, and doting uncle, he enjoyed spending time at home.

As a child, Perry was very spoiled and never got in trouble no matter what he did. His family remembers, with humor, that at dinner Perry would always hurry up to finish his corn on the cob, chewing like a typewriter, so that he could get the last piece before anyone else! He quickly outgrew this behavior, as he was known for his enormous heart. Perry loved to give gifts to those he loved, no matter how little he had.

Perry was a consummate collector and would often find treasures at the car wash, or garage sales – when Martha was able to take him. His expansive collection of crosses were a cherished point of pride. He loved to collect beads and was highly creative, constructing elaborate necklaces and bracelets. For many years, he wore a vest decorated with so many pins that it gave him a sore back, and he had to quit wearing it! Proudly, he showed off his handiwork, exclaiming, "see, the colors match, I bet I can't do that again!" Perry would always gift a piece of his carefully made jewelry to his beloved niece, Savannah, each and every time he saw her; he couldn't wait for her to come over so he could share his treasure.

Perry is also remembered as being very set in his ways and did not like change. Every evening at 5:30pm, he would gather with his brother Terry to watch Wheel of Fortune in the family room. His bedroom was his favorite place to be, there he could be found watching NCIS or listening to Gospel music, old country songs, and sometimes even Spanish music. He delighted in the pleasure of an Oma's hamburger, and going to eat snow cones with his sister, Evelyn.

Perry was a Believer who loved God, and always took time to share that love with others. He attended Water Street Baptist Church for many years. Perry touched many lives during his lifetime and made many friends. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his mother Pearl; father Edwin; brothers Tony, David, Larry and Bobby; and his two sisters Eva and Janice.

Perry is survived by his brothers Terry and Elvie; sister-in-law Evelyn; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Services will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 4:00p.m. at Boze Mitchell McKibbin Funeral Home Chapel in Waxahachie, Texas. Burial will immediately follow at Waxahachie City Cemetery.
