George J. Amyot, 88, of 181 Webster Road, died Monday evening in Claxton- Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, where he had been a patient since Nov. 18. He had been in failing health since July. Mr. Amyot was a dairy farmer for 40 years before his retirement.
Born Feb. 5, 1913, in Winchester, Ontario, son of Alfred and Eliza Marion Amyot, he moved at age 16 with his family from Canada to Hammond in 1929.
He married Jeanne Marie Faubert on Dec. 26, 1933, in St. John's Church, Manotick, Ontario. After their marriage, they moved to Rossie and later settled in Hammond.
An avid sportsman, Mr. Amyot enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, two daughters, five sisters, two brothers, seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Three brothers, Albert, Louie and Paul, and two sisters, Minnie Sargent and Jeanette Beaudin, died before him.
A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Church with Father Amyot , pastor of the Church of the Visitation, Norfolk, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Steven Murray, pastor of St. Peter's Church, and Mr. Amyot 's nephew, the Rev. Douglas Decker, pastor of St. Cecilia's Church, Adams, officiating. Burial will be in Rossie Cemetery.
