Dr. Duane A. Widdifield, Ph.D (1934-2023)

Indianapolis, 89 years, was co-founder and president of the Institute of Clinical Hypnosis, Inc., which was the first full time facility for Hypnoanalysis in the state of Indiana. He died at home on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, following kidney failure.

He was married to Marlene LaVonne BROWN in 1958 at the 49th Street Christian Church.

He graduated from Howe High School in 1952. He attended Butler University, Indiana University, and Lincoln Chiropractic College. He received degrees from the Uiversity of New York, California Western University, Blackstone School of Law, Ridgedale Theological Seminary, and completed continuing education at Harvard School of Medicine and Indiana School of Medicine. Dr Duane Widdifield served with the Seventh Surgical Hospital in the US Army Medical Corps, during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Psychotherapy Association of Marriage Counselors, and was listed in Who's Who in the Midwest. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Mensa, Intertel, and the Triple-nine Society.

He practiced psychoterapy on the Southside of Indianapolis from 1972-2004.

Duane was a member of Faith Assembly of God Church where he served two terms on the Board, chaired the Constitution Revision Committee, and taught Sunday School. He was a published author and poet, and an award winning artist.

Duane is survived by his son, Mark; son Erik and his wife, Molly; daughters Susan Cherry and her husband Jeff, and Janice Whittemore and her husband, David; five grandchildren, Marina Eakle, and her husband Dan, David Young, Jr., Shane Ping, Erin Marlene Widdifield, great grandson Lucas Eakle, and one great granddaughter Maya LaVonne Eakle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene, his brothers Garth and William, and his sister, Phyllis Widdifield Brown.

On the 13th of September 2023, My Uncle, Dr. Duane Alden Widdifield peacefully passed away at his home at the age of 89 from kidney failure. He was cremated and will be placed in his niche at Crown Hill Cemetery with his beloved wife of 49 years and 2 months, Mrs. Marlene LaVonne BROWN Widdifield 1936-2007.
