Lakemore - Edgar C. "Eggs" Bittner, 67, of 1564 Josephine St., former village treasurer and fire chief, died in Akron City Hospital on Saturday, December 7.

Mr. Bittner was stricken as he prepared to go to the Lakemore Plaza, where he was going to play Santa, as he had done the last five years.

Born in Akron, Mr. Bittner had lived in Lakemore for 37 years. He retired in 1969 from B.F. Goodrich Co., where he had worked in the printing department for 47 years. Mr. Bittner was a member of Lakemore Methodist Church. He was also a member of the BFG 25-Year Club, URW Local 5, Mogadore Boat Club, and was a 35 year member of JOUMA Lakemore Council 380.

Mr. Bittner served for many years as village treasurer and was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years, 14 years as chief, retiring on Dec. 31, 1974. He was past president of the Summit County Fireman's Association and an honorary member of the Ohio State's Fire Chiefs Association.

He leaves his wife, Helen; sons, Clifton, Mogadore, and Clarence, Lakemore; daughters, Katherine Sharrit, Greensburg, Louise Robinson, Suffield, Marjorie Wortstall, Akron, Shirley Wall and Cindy Light, both in Greensburg; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; plus brothers, Albert and Robert , both in Akron, and Alfred in Cuyahoga Falls; and sister, Esther Robinson in Cuyahoga Falls.

Services will be in Hopkins Canton Rd. Chapel on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Interment in Hillside Cemetery.
