Joseph "Joe" Allison Haley was the son of Frank Ezra and Anna Mary Buck Haley. He graduated from Wilmington High School. He was a good athlete and played football. He met his wife-to-be, Carrie Fry Spear, when she and her widowed mother moved from New Castle to the house next door to the Haley family in Wilmington on W. 18th Street. They married October 22, 1914. Joe Haley was the father of two daughters: Mildred Frances Haley and Hazel Spear Haley. He was a bookkeeping employee of DuPont for many years. At age 45 he suffered a stroke which debilitated him for the rest of his life.
