Mildred Morgan Haley Lindsay was the daughter of Frank Ezra and Anna Mary Buck Haley. She graduated from University of Delaware in 1922 and was an English teacher at Wilmington High School for several years. She married Harvey Rose Lindsay October 10, 1925 at Grace Methodist Church in Wilmington. They had one daughter, Anna "Louise" Lindsey. In 1941, the Lindseys moved to the home of Mildred's parents on W. 18th Street in Wilmington and later bought it. The family home was sold after Harvey Lindsay died in 1963, and Mildred then lived in an apartment in Wilmington.
