Stanley L. Patterson Sr., 86 , of Crozet, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at a local hospital in Charlottesville. He was born August 28, 1921, the son of the late Earl S. Patterson and Mary Woodson Patterson.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Virginia G. Patterson; two brothers, J. D.Patterson and Carlton Patterson; two sisters, Martha Jane Owens and Barbara Abrahanson.
He is survived by his son, Stanley L. Patterson Jr., and his wife, Pam, of Crozet; three grandchildren, Joshua, Jamie and Jake Patterson; one great- granddaughter, Layla Jo; two brothers, Franklin and Roger Patterson, both of Crozet; three sisters, Grace Morris of Ruckersville, Dorothy Jones of Waynesboro, and Katherine Coffey of Afton.
Stanley loved to do small wood craft work. He sold a few, but gave most to his work to his friends. He also liked to plant a few tomatoes for his special friends on Patterson Mill Road.
He was a member and a deacon in the Hillsboro Baptist Church. A life time member of the Crozet Sportsman Club and the VFW Post 8436 in Yancey Mills. He was the first of four brothers to join the armed forces in the Navy of World War II. He served over two years in South Pacific on the USS Baltimore. He earned a Battle Star in Asiatic Pacific, one star in the liberation of the Philippines and a good conduct medal.
The family suggests the memorial contributions may be made to the Hillsboro Baptist Church, 6356 Hillsboro Lane, Crozet, VA 22932 or Western Albemarle Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 188, Crozet, VA 22932.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Hillsboro Cemetery. Dr. Alan Thompson will officiate.
