He and wife Phebe had 3 little children/babies that died in the terrible days of 1846; Hannah aged four, Fanny almost six; and Phoebe two moths old. Their names are all in a kiosk at the Old Nauvoo Burial Ground, in Nauvoo, Illinois.

I found in Nauvoo, that they lived in Sec 8 of Morley's Settlement where they were burned out and "ate their supper in the ashes". After they were burned out and the expellation they were in the potter field area when the doves came and saved the people.

They lived in Mt. Pisgah, Iowa near present day Joyner, in Union County, Iowa for about about a year, before they left for the Salt Lake Valley in 1852. While there, they had another daughter named Elizabeth Catherine, that was born in 1848 and died in 1849. All that's left of the town today, is the cemetery and a Mormon Historic Monument.

Samuel's family came to Utah in the Isaac M. Stewart Company in 1852 with 245 individuals and 53 wagons. They were outfitted at Kanesville, Iowa (present day Council Bluffs).

After they reached Utah, they settled in Manti, Sanpete, Utah, where they lived for the rest of their lives.

There is a life sketch and picture of him in "Pioneers and Prominent Men of Utah".
