The Friday, June 28, 1901 edition of The Robesonian newspaper included the following:
Mr. Archie Bracy died suddenly at his home, near Rowland, on Tuesday evening about six o'clock. He had been at work in the field near his house, and went to the well to get a drink of water, after which he sat down on the steps. He was taken ill suddenly and died before help could be summoned. He was about 64 years old, and was one of the most prominent and respected citizens of his community. The funeral took place Wednesday afternoon and the unusually large gathering of sorrowing friends attested the high esteem in which he was held by his neighbors. Our sympathies are with the family in their bereavement.
