Alphonsus was born to Phillip Kailing and Anna Costello Kailing, my maternal grandparents, on October 14, 1900. He was the oldest of 12 children. He never liked his middle name, Isidore (named after St.Isidore.) When someone would call him Alphonsus Isidore, he would say, "There's the door." He took the name Francis for his Confirmation name, and thereafter used Al F. for his name. Somehow, he was able to get his Social Security checks in the name of Al F., which pleased him so much. However, some family members continued to call him Fronze, Phonse, or Alphonse.

We could always remember Uncle Al's age as his age coincided with the years, since he was born in 1900.

Uncle Al worked in a car factory in Detroit until he met and married Ruth Ethel Earnest in May 1935. Then he moved back to Reed City and farmed. They had one daughter, Maxine.

Aunt Ruth entered eternal life in 1952 at the age of 47 years.

Uncle Al married Lillian Vera Youngs Eichenberg in 1955. They had one daughter, Aleasa.

Uncle Al entered eternal life on February 21, 1982. He was 81 years old. He had just finished getting ready to go to church when he had a massive heart attack, sat down in a chair, and died. He was living at the home of his daughter and son-in-law at that time.
