DONALD LEE BALL: 1939-1988

Donald Lee Ball, 48, a Steamboat Springs resident since 1971, died on Saturday, July 30 in Steamboat. Services are scheduled for Thursday Aug. 4, at 1 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Steamboat. Rev. W. Spencer Wren will officiate, Romaine MaHaffey will provide the music, and the crew Donald worked with at Valley Electric will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be in the Steamboat Springs Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 3, until 9 p.m., at the Greeno Mortuary Chapel in Steamboat. Born in Denver, Don lived his entire life in Colorado. He served an apprenticeship with Public Service in Denver, from October 1958 until January 1971, at which time he moved to Steamboat and went to work for Yampa Valiev Electric. Survivors include his wife, Louise Ball of Steamboat Springs; daughter Leona Ball of Denver; son Larry J. Ball of Steamboat; and sisters Ruby Augustine and Bertha Gray of Reno, Nev.; Rosalie Goddard of Denver; and Shirley Craun of Westminster. Don and Louise were married in Oak Creek on Oct. 5, 1958. Louise is the former Anna Louise Cromwell. Don was the son of the late James A. and Mary R. Ball. Among the many things Don liked to do was bowl with his friends in the Yampa Valley. He bowled on several teams and earned several trophies. He also was an avid fisherman and hunter, and he enjoyed snowmobiling. Donald's parents spent several years living in both South Routt county and Denver between the 1940's and the 1950's, wintering in their home in Denver. In the 1950's, they sold the Denver home , Donald attended the Toponas school in the 1950's graduating in 1958.
