"Mary Ellen 'Ella' Whiting, 92, of 553 E. Center St., Springville, died of a stroke Monday, Feb. 28, 1977, at her home.
"She was born Oct. 26, 1884 in Springville, a daughter of Israel and Verona Noakes Clegg. She married John Hall Whiting on Feb. 25, 1903, in Springville and the marriage was solemnized later in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died in 1955.
"They had lived in Richfield, Ida., for a short time following their marriage, and then returned to Springville. Mrs. Whiting was a visiting teacher in the Relief Society for 40 years and had served on the Old Folks Committee and the Black Hawk Committee.
"Survivors include four sons and two daughters, Jesse H. Whiting, Ray Whiting, and Mrs. Howard (Mary) Sanford, all of Springville; Mark C. Whiting, Las Vegas; Mrs. Frank (Marjorie) Fullmer, Blackfoot, Ida.; John 'Jack' Whiting, Cedar City; 31 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Lewis Clegg and Mrs. Ida Bird, both of Springville.
"Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Springville Fourth-10th Ward Chapel under the direction of Bishop Reed Averett of the 10th Ward. Friends may call at Wheeler Mortuary Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. or Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Springville Evergreen Cemetery."
