"John H. Whiting, former Springville Councilman, Dies.
"Springville --- John H. Whiting, 74, prominent livestock raiser and former Springville City councilman, died Sunday evening at the family home after a short illness.
"Born Aug. 7, 1881, in Springville, he was the son of William E. and Mary Hall Whiting. He married Mary Ellen Clegg Feb. 25, 1903, in Springville and the rites were later solemnized in the Salt lake L.D.S. Temple. They lived in Richfield, Ida., for eight years, returning to Springville in 1918, where they had since lived. Mr. Whiting was a farmer and livestock raiser throughout his life. He was a member of his ward old Folks' Committee and the Black Hawk Committee and held the office of Elder in the LDS Church. He served two terms as a Springville City councilman.
"Survivors include his widow and six children, Jesse H. Whiting and Mrs. Howard (Mary) Sanford, Springville; Mark and Jack Whiting, Las Vegas, Nev.; Ray Whiting, Ogden; Mrs. Frank (Marjorie) Fullmer, Blackfoot, Ida. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
"Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Fourth-Seventh LDS Ward chapel under the direction of Bishop Glenn Tipton of the Fourth Ward. Friends may call at the Wheeler and Son Mortuary Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 and at the family home, 553 E. Center, Wednesday prior to services. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery."
