Paul B. Cole was born in Athens on February 9, 1928 and died on Saturday, August 30, 2008 after a short illness.
Mr. Cole was a graduate of Athens High School and Athens State College. He served in the Korean War as a sergeant when the Athens National Guard was activated during that war. Mr. Cole was a retired engineer at Redstone Arsenal.
He is survived by his son, P. Michael Cole of Athens; his daughter, Patricia Cole Smith of Athens; grandchildren, Cody Smith, Heather Smith and Jolene Richardson, all of Athens; a grandson, David Cole of Tuscaloosa; along with numerous nephews and nieces and one brother, retired Commander Robert A. Cole of Baca Raton, Fla.
Mr. Cole was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Cole and Evelyn Nell White Cole; his wife, Betty Jo Anderson Cole; a sister, Dorothy Cole Moore; and a daughter, Cathryn Cole Richardson.
Mr. Cole was a deacon at the First Christian Church in Athens.
The graveside service will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Athens today at 3 p.m. with McConnell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
