Lydia was the daughter of Asahel Gridley, Sr and Elizabeth Percival (Timothy Percival and Mary Fuller). My ggg-grandmother and I have attached a transcribed copy of her Will. Lydia's children had prospered in their own right or marriages, but she did divide and deed much of their land to each child when widowed 1846. After widowed, she lived on the family farm with the last 2 daughters, which married by 1855, married dau. Ludinda Beckworth-Brown stayed on the farm that Lydia kept and took care of her until her 1862 death. Lydia left their family farm to Lucinda and Wm Jackson Brown who chose to sell the farm and accept a Civil War service land grant near Cameron, MO where they died.

In 1810, Lydia Gridley married Samuel Beckworth in Cazenovia, New York. Samuel and Lydia had 9 children: Asahel, Zerah, Sylvestor, Harvy Franklin, Abigail Stout, Sidney, Euphemia Croft, Orson, Lucinda Brown, born in NY, IN, IL, MO

Westward moves:
In 1812, Camillus twsp, Onondaga County, NY, Samuel purchased 1 acre,
1813 he purchased 76 acres, no sale or probate has been found.
1816 begin to move westward, first to Hartford, IN.
1831, Lydia's much younger brother, Asahel Gridley, Jr. had moved to Bloomington, Illinois to start his own general store after working as a clerk. By 1834, Samuel is buying and selling land in IN and IL, moving 1832 to Putnam County, Illinois, the area they lived turned into Marshall County, IL, some of the family buried in Magnolia twsp.
1836, sister, Abigail Chamblin moved to Lexington, Illinois, their mother lives with her. Samuel purchased 80 acres in Roberts twsp, Marshall Co, IL., when he died 1846, this land divided to children Sylvestor, Sidney, and Orson, which they sold to wealthy brother-in-law married to sister, Euphemia, B. Hutchinson Croft of Wenona, IL.
1952- Sidney and married sister, Abigail Stout, chose to move to OR, travelling on the Oregon Trail. "Hutch" Croft eventually bought all the Beckworth lands, left to his 5 children, they sold 1890's and moved to other states.

After Samuel's 1846 death,
1850 No twsp listed, probably Evans, Marshall Co., Illnois, using "Beckwith", widow Lydia living on her land, at home are dau. Euphemia (marries CROFT December) and Lucinda (marries 1855, (William Jackson BROWN, b. 1832 PA in Evans,IL), land is of $4,000 worth, while her neighbors worth is in the hundreds.

1860, Evans, Marshall Co, IL: listed "Beckwith", Lydia still lives on her land, living with her is married dau. Lucinda, 22 (Wm Jackson, 26, of PA) Brown and her son Wm Jr., 2. (Near them is his elder married bro. Asher D. Brown and their mother, Hannah, born 1797 PA)
Lydia's sister, Abigail Champlin, is a widow living at Lexington, IL, brother Asahel Gridley is about to become an important IL statesman, but she will die before she sees his great success.
