On 4 July 1889, "Prof" married Arta Kathryn Reneau, daughter of John C. Reneau, a confederate Veteran, and Celia Murphree Reneau. In 1874, at the age of 7, Wm Franklin Maynor entered Old Ebeneezer school in Murphree's Valley. At the age of 17, he entered Walnut Grove College, walking 5 miles to college each day, graduated in 1888, took the state teacher's exam and was awarded a first grade certificate. During the next two years, he taught at five different schools on Straight Mountain. There were only 9 first grade teachers in the entire county. He graduated from Blount College in 1894 and later received his Masters Degree from the University of Alabama. He came to Oneonta as principal of the public school in 1897. Three years later he bought 320 acres on Straight Mountain, built a home and founded Appalachian School. He taught there, or at Oneonta for twenty years. He served as principal at Crossville, Carbon Hill, and Locust Fork, and was elected Blount County Superintendent of Education in 1936, from which he retired in 1947. "Prof" and Arta had 12 children: Lieut Eldridge Washington Maynor, Minnie Modelia Maynor, Capt Eugene Asbury Maynor, Vera Maynor, Willie E.
