John Cross was born Aug. 20, 1832, in Waynesburg, Pa., moved to Rock Island, Ill., at the age of 8, lived there until the fall of 1869.
He was married to Elizabeth Vandruff in July, 1855. Seven children were born to this union, five of which survive with their mother. He moved to Kansas in 1869 and has resided in Jefferson county almost all of the intervening time.
