UNION, S.C. - Mr. Vernon Louis Childers, age 77, of 3669 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union, S.C., widower of Helen McSwain Childers died on Friday, October 20, 2006 at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mr. Childers was born in York, S.C. on April 15, 1929, a son of the late Charlie Childers and Pearl Watts Childers. He retired from Milliken & Co.- Cedar Hill Plant and was a member of Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon. Survivors are, two daughters, Melinda Ann Childers of the home and Mary C. Lanier of Lockhart; a son, Daniel Tommy Childers of Union; two sisters, Judy Mize of Charlotte, N.C. and Stella Mae Porter of Wilkesburg, S.C.; five brothers, Rev. Millus Childers of Una, S.C., Irvin Childers of Buffalo, Charles Childers, Jr. of Lexington, S.C., James Childers and Earl Childers both of Union, two grandsons; and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Lockhart Free Will Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Bishop and Rev. Frank Cantrell. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 P.M. on Saturday night at S. R Holcombe Funeral Home. The family is at the home 3669 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Union, S.C. S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
