While Mae was born daughter of Scott Coleman, she used the Whiteaker name at her marriage and apparently during the rest of her single life. It may have been easier than explaining the name difference from her mother and step- father. Scott died when Mae was small so Isaac Whiteaker was the only "Dad" she knew. The author does not know if Isaac Whiteaker adopted her.

"Bell Family has 25 Anniversary Reunion.
"One hundred and 21 members of the late Lynn and Mae Bell family gathered at 'Bell Heir' a camping area at the Bell farms near Bell Center , for the 25th annual family celebration June 23-24.
The grounds were decorated with silver Christmas trees and Santa Claus made his appearance for the children. Saturday evening was spent with each famiy doing its part in the celebration. Sunday was filled with more visiting and plenty of good food.
