James' parents were Josef Kruta and Josefina Marsikova from Biskoupky, Zbiroh, Bohemia (Austro-Hungarian Empire). They died there. At the time of James' death, he had five sisters still living in Bohemia.
James and Johanna had 9 children, six survived. In addition to their six children, they also adopted the two young children of James' brother.

He is survived by his widow and six children; Mrs. Marie Wilkerson, Topeka, Kan.; Gussie Kruta, Dawson, Iowa; Mrs. Harry Hutchin, Miss Helen Kruta, Frank and Joseph Kruta, all of Oklahoma City. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Marshall & Harper, funeral directors.
