Weldon Chester Dodge was the youngest of three children and second son born to John Washington and Sallie Dodge.

Chester's family lived in Trousdale County, Tennessee, first in Providence, then in Hartsville, until shortly after the death of Chester's mother early 1891.

At age six, Chester, along with his father, his sister, Dellah V, and his brother, Willard Ewell, joined his half-brother, James Andrew, in McLennan County, Texas, where they made their new home in McGregor.

Early 1893, Chester's father remarried.

In 1900, brother, Willard, and half-brother, Jim, were each on his own. And in that year, the family suffered the loss of daughter and sister, Dellah, at age 23. Chester at age 14, left home because of his stepmother.

On September 21, 1911, in Tombstone, Cochise, Arizona, Chester married Mildred Dalley. Chester and Mildred returned to Texas shortly after their marriage to settle in Commerce, Hunt County, where son, Weldon Chester, and daughter, Edna Thelma, were born, then in Yoakum, Lavaca County, where Chester was a railroad switchman, and where four more children were born to the family: Willard Earl, Helen Mildred, Robert Henry and Howard Alvin.

In 1925, the family moved to Dunsmuir, Siskiyou, California. There the seventh child, Doris Ruth, was born.

In 1927, Mildred returned with her children to Texas. By 1929, Mildred was living in Waco, McLennan County, where she was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Early 1947, she relocated to Junction City, Lane County, Oregon, until 1963, when she made her home in Eugene. Late 1971, after a brief illness, Mildred was transported for treatment to Houston, Harris County, Texas, where she passed away nine days later, after a short treatment for acute leukemia. She was 78 years of age. Her funeral was in the Chapel of Wilkirson & Hatch, Inc., Waco, McLennan County, Texas. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery, Waco.

In 1942, Chester relocated to begin a life in Oregon, where he resided until his death at the age of 80.

Burial was March 31, 1967.
