JAMESTOWN — Mr. James Raymond Mc Daniel, 63, past away on Saturday, February 14, 2009, at his home with his wife as caregiver under the direction of Hospice of the Piedmont.

A military funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, at Calvary Baptist Church in Chester, S.C. with Rev. David Sealey officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Mc Daniel was born on March 10, 1945, in Chester, S.C., a son of the late R. Raymond McDaniel and Evelyn Cornwell McDaniel.

Jim graduated from Chester High School on May 31, 1963. On August 17,1967, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State University. On January 2,1968, he began his service in the United Stated Army. He was a member of the Chief Legal Administrator for the 160th Aviation Group, 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile), Republic of Vietnam.

He was stationed approx. 30 miles from the DMZ at a fire base called LZ Sally. James, who held the rank of Specialist 5, received the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Bronze Star Medal. James retired as branch manager from Commercial Credit. He was a competitive tennis player and an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He loved his family, children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Robert McDaniel and step-grandson, Steven Parsley, III.

Jim is survived by his wife, Brenda Parsley-McDaniel of Jamestown, N.C.; two daughters, Stephanie May and her husband, John of Indianapolis, Ind., and Susan Scheff and her husband, Paul of Charles Town, W.Va.; two step- daughters, Kim Mathai and husband, Michael of High Point, N.C., and Dr. Sue Sloop and boyfriend, Gregg Fellows of Atlanta, Ga.; one step-son, Steven Parsley, Jr. and wife, Kirsten of Charleston, S.C.; four-grandchildren, Jason, David, and Allison May, and Will Scheff; three step-grandchildren, Alex and Olivia Mathai, and Jessica Parsley; six brothers, Charlie McDaniel and wife, Sylvia of Mooresville, N.C., Roy McDaniel of Chester, S.C., Harold McDaniel and wife, Bette of Marietta, Ga., George McDaniel of Tampa, Fla., Walter McDaniel and wife, Judith of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Rodger McDaniel of Chester, S.C.; two sisters, Margaret Hodge and husband, Joel of Sumter, S.C., and Frances Carnes and husband, Danny of Chester, S.C.
