Obituary from Star-Courier in 1954--
RITES HELD FOR ROY FELTUS OF PIONEER NEWSPAPER FAMILY
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Trinity Episcopal Church for Roy M. Feltus, son of a pioneer Bloomington newspaper publisher, long-time executive with nationally known circuses, and a leader in the field of outdoor advertising in Indiana.
Mr. Feltus died in Bloomington Hospital Sunday, following a heart attack earlier in the day at his residence, 519 North Walnut Street. He had been in ill health for the past year, but had recovered enough to take an active part in his business affairs up until the time of his death. He was 77 years old.
Mr. Feltus was one of a number of Bloomington boys of a half-century ago who caught the circus fever. He joined the Gentry Brothers Show at their home quarters here in Bloomington and thus began his long association with big time show business that was to take him to the top as a manager for Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus for some nine years.
During his years in show business, he was associated with the press and managerial staffs of LaPearl's Circus, Sells-Floto, Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, Forepaugh-Sells Circus, and Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey.
Later, Mr. Feltus was helf-owner of Shipp and Feltus Circus which toured South America, Central America and the West Indies for many years, playing in many of the municipal auditoriums of leading Latin American cities and introducing a major American circus to the Latin American Countries for the first time.
Returning to Bloomington, he managed the Harris Grand and Princess Theatres for a number of years following the death of Robert H. Harris.
In the early 1930's he became associated in the outdoor advertising business and with E. O. Shepard, of Brownstown, operated the Feltus-Shepard Poster Advertising Company. For the past 11 years he had been secretary of the Indiana Outdoor Advertising Association. He became widely known throughout the country in the outdoor advertising industry.
Immediate family survivors are the wife, Grace Feltus, to whom he had been married for the past 23 years; two daughters, Mrs. George Leinenweber, of Riverside, N. J., and Mrs. Robert Preston, of New York City. Under the stage name of Catherine Craig, Mrs. Preston has appeared in a number of motion pictures and stage productions. Her husband, Robert Preston, is also a well-known theatrical personality. Four grandchildren, children of the Leinenwebers; three grandsons, children of a stepson, James Pike, of San Diege, Calif., and a grandson, son of the late Phillip Pike, also survive. Mrs. Jewel Harris Buchanan, and Mrs. J. P. Leffler, of this city, are sisters-in-law.
One sister and two brothers also survive. They are Mrs. Gertrude Romiser, of Bloomington; John R. Feltus, of Lexington, Ky., and Paul L. Feltus, publisher of The Star-Courier.
Roy Feltus was the second son of the late Henry J. Feltus and Catherine Baird Feltus. He was born in Bloomington soon after the family moved here from Greencastle.
Mr. Feltus was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, Variety Club of Indianapolis, Rotary Club and many civic, social and business organizations. A few weeks ago he was honored as a 40-year-member of the Elks Club. He was a long-time member of the Country Club. He was a deacon and senior warden at Trinity Episcopal Church of Bloomington.
Funeral rites were conducted by the Rev. A. Elliston Cole. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Allen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Active pallbearers were Paul Welke, Elmo Gilliatt, Jack Leffler, Thomas Harris, Louis Koplow and Leo Hickman.
Honorary pallbearers were E. W. Arnett, Dr. Tracy Ross, Ralph Nelson, Henry Veatch, Rex Bell, George Smith, Earl Voshell, Dr. Neal Baxter, Joseph Hanna, John Stempel, Zora Clevenger, William Murphy, Elmer Harris, Jess Fields, Herbert Davis, Lowell Moody, Lynn Whitehead, C.
