Funeral services for Walter Lee Yancy, Sr., age 75, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 1996, at the Winans Funeral Home Chapel with David Hamilton officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Oliver Cemetery in Pauls Valley under the direction of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville.
Walter Yancy was born November 6, 1920 at Ada to Oscar William and Cordelia Mayhan Yancy. He died Monday, September 2, 1996 at the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Walter has been a longtime resident of Oklahoma. He met and married Charlene Henson of Stratford on March 8, 1942. She preceded him in death in 1989.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in Europe. He was a POW for about 8 months in a German prison camp.
Walter worked at many jobs and was a skilled and trusted employee. He worked for Gilt Edge Farms as a route man, and also was a former employee of the Pauls Valley State School. He was a 15-year employee of the Warren Petroleum Plant in Maysville. More recently he was a diesel mechanic.
He was affiliated with the Baptist Church as a young boy. He was a member of the POW organization of Oklahoma.
He is survived by three sons; Walter Yancy, Jr. of Odessa, Texas; Terry Yancy and his wife, Marsha, of Oklahoma City; and Doc Yancy of Oklahoma City; two daughters; Pat Adams of Oklahoma City; and Janice Porter and her husband, Jim, also of Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters; Ethel Archerand Evay Mathis, both of Ada, Okla.; four brothers; Doy Yancy of Baytown, Texas; Coy Yancy of Ada; Ted Yancy of Ada; and Ector Yancy of Sand Springs, Okla.; and by many other relatives and friends made throughout the years.
Walter was preceded in death by both parents, his wife Charlene in 1989, and by brothers; Bee, Lester, Harvey Dee and Edward Paul, and by a granddaughter, Jennifer.
