Archie is the son of Jane McNiven b. 1826 Scotland and Peter Currie b. 1814 Scotland. Family lore says that Archie was born in 1855, 3 or 5 days after the ship landed in Canada with his family from Cairnduncan, Islay, Argyll, Scotland. He was named for his brother Archibald who died at sea on route to Canada and his maternal Grandfather Archibald McNiven. While just a infant, his father died leaving his mother Jane widowed with 4 young children. His mother and his siblings continued in Erin, Wellington Co, Ontario with the help of his Uncle Alexander McNiven and Uncle Neil Currie. A few years later, his mother married a distant cousin James Stewart. After 3 more siblings were born to his family, they then immigrated to Burnside, Lapeer, Michigan in 1866.

Archie married Marion Smith on October 6, 1878 in Brockway Center, St. Clair Co., Michigan. Together, they had 9 children. He was a farmer and in later years worked in the Michigan Lumber Camps. His wife Marion passed away in 1908 leaving him with several still young children. The children were parceled out amongst his older children and family members. He died 10 years later from ingesting Paris Green (Chemical used in pigment, such as paint and for poisoning animals/rodents).

Archie and Marion's children are:

Myrtle Mae b.1879
Peter A. b.1880
Margaret b. 1882
Josephine b. 1885
Maude Esther b. 1890
Edna Hazel b. 1894 (twin)
William b. 1894 (twin)
Neil b. 1897
Frank Charles b. 1899
