Mary Parthena STOCKTON was born on March 9, 1818, in Wayne County, Kentucky to Sarah Goodnight McGOWAN, age 24, and Daniel Morgan STOCKTON, age 24. Mary Parthena Stockton's nickname was "Mary Polly". Mary Parthena STOCKTON married Jordan GRANT on January 22, 1840, in Dade County, Missouri, when she was 21 years old and he was 27 years of age. They had eight children in 21 years. On May 25, 1868, Mary Polly became a widow. Her husband, Jordan, died at the age of 55 years as a result of a fatal kick from a horse. Her youngest child, Parthena, was only 6 years of age. Mary never remarried and lived out her life on their farm in Dade County, Missouri.

Mary Polly passed away on August 9, 1894, in Polk Township, Dade County, Missouri, having lived a long life of 76 years. Polk Township was near the present day town of Everton. She is buried along side her husband, Jordan, in the Stockton Family Cemetery, near Everton, Dade County, Missouri.
