Eulalia Barrow was born January 10, 1835, the daughter of John Barrow and Mary Steele Barrow. She married Samuel W. Higgerson (August 10, 1818-April 11, 1909) on March 12, 1863. She was from Jackson County and was 28 years old. He was 44 years old at the time. To this marriage were born six children, two girls and four boys:

1) Edwin Higgerson, born January 29, 1865, died September 15, 1940.
2) Herbert Higgerson, born June 9, 1867, died March 7, 1946
3) Samuel Higgerson, born October 22, 1869, died September 6, 1911
4) Eulalia Jane Higgerson, born June 19, 1872, died April, 1898
5) Lucy Higgerson, born in 1874, death date unknown
6) Walter William Higgerson, born September 9, 1878, died May 29, 1945

In 1878, the Higgerson family moved to a farm in Washington County, near the town of Nashville. Eulalia died October 31, 1879 of pneumonia. Her son, Samuel, had ridden to get a doctor, but she died before he could return. She was buried at Ashley, and her son, Samuel, was buried next to her after his death in 1911. After her death, Samuel Wesley Higgerson married Eulalia's sister, Sinai, and it was she who raised her sister's six children.

General Notes:
This indenture made and entered into this sixteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty five between Samuel Wesley Higgerson and Eulania Higgerson, his wife of the County of Perry and state of Illinois of the first part and Rebeca Higgerson of the county of Randolph and state of Illinois of the second part Witnesseth that the said parties of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged doth hereby grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto the party of the second part her heirs and assigns forever all and singular the following described land situate lying and being in the County of Perry and State of Illinois and designated as follows to wit The North East quarter of the South East quarter of section thirty (30) in Township six south of Range four west of the third principal meridian in the said County of Perry and state of Illinois containing forty acres more or less together with all and singular the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertgaining to have and to hold the above described premises unto the said party of the second part-her heirs and assigns forever and the said parties of the first part doth covenant to and with the said party of the second part that they will forever support and defend the title and possessions of the said lands from the Claim or Claims of all and every person lawfully claiming the same. In Testimony whereof the said parties of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and duly above written.

Randolph County SS I the undersigned Clerk of the Circuit Court within and for the said county hereby certify that Samuel Wesley Higgerson and Eulilia Higgerson his wife whose signatures apprear to the foregoing deeds and who are personally known to me to be the identical persons whose names are subscribed to said Deed as having exectued the same this day appeared before me and acknowledged that they had signed sealed and delievered the same as their free act and deed for the uses and purposes therein expressed. And the said Eulilia Higgerson wife of the said Samuel W. Higgerson having been by me made acquainted with the contents of said Deed and being by me examined separate and apart from her said husband acknowledged that she had executed the same and relinguished her right of Dower in and to the premises therein consigned voluntarily freely and without compulsion of her said husband. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name and affixed by official seal this 17th day of November in the year of
our Lord one Thousand Eight-hundred and sixty four.

The quote ". . . Eulilia Higgerson wife of the said Samuel W. Higgerson having been by me made acquainted with the contents of said Deed . ." implies that Eulalia could not read or write. Samuel Higgerson certainly could not write, and he signed his will and an "X".--TH
