Mrs. Mathias was born in Portsmouth. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and is the widow of Jewell Mathias.
Survivors include four daughters, Edith Lewis and Lenieve Feldner, both of Portsmouth, and Jewell Ellis and Mary Ann Rose, both of Suffolk; three sons, Maylon ''Slick'' Mathias of Chesapeake, Marshall Mathias of Virginia Beach and Edward Mathias of Franklin; 19 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Pinecrest Baptist Church.
