Henry Halfmann Called By Death
Resident Here for 29 Years; Funeral Rites Held at St. Stephen's Church Tuesday A.M.

Henry Halfmann, who was engaged in farming in the territory east of Stephen for the past thirty years, died at St. Michael's Hospital in Grand Forks last Thursday afternoon, June 18th. Mr. Halfmann had been taken to the Grand Forks hospital earlier in the week, suffering from a severe attack of pneumonia, brought on by a chill which followed a shower in which he had been caught several days earlier while engaged in field work on his farm. Mr. Halfmann had been in failing health for several years past, suffering from asthma, and this ailment, together with other complications, brought about his death early Thursday afternoon. He was in his 63rd year at the time of his death last week.

Mr. Halfmann was born at Stacyville, Iowa, April 22, 1880. He spent his boyhood and early manhood in that city, attending the public schools at that point and later attending college at Mankato, Minn. On completing his education, he was employed for several years as assistant cashier of the Armour (S.D.) Bank. On April 25, 1911, he was married to Miss Rosa Kraus at Stacyville, Iowa. Later he gave up his bank work to enter the mercantile business, and had been engaged in such an enterprise for a year or more before coming to Stephen to engage in farming in the spring of 1913. The Halfmanns had since continuously resided on the east of Stephen farm.

Mr. Halfmann was a splendid type of christian gentleman, quiet and unassuming, and in the year of his residence here had acquired the respect and good will of a wide circle of warm friends. He was a member of St. Stephen's church of this city, served for several years as a member of its board of trustees, and was a member of the Holy Name Society.

Funeral rites were held from St. Stephen's church at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 23rd, with Rev. E. Luetticke officiating, and interment was made in St. Stephen's cemetery. The last rites were attended by a large number of sorrowing friends, and many followed the remains to their last resting place in the cemetery east of this city. Pall bearers, all members of the Holy Name Society with which the deceased had been associated, were John A. Kuznia, Orel Brossoit, Stanley Price, James A. Whalen, Peter Smith, and Clem Knoll.

The following out-of-town relatives were present at Tuesday's rites:--Hubert Halfmann of Stacyville, Ia.; Mike Halfmann of Manly, Ia.; Mrs. Agatha Kraus and son Robert of Stacyville; Miss Mildred Ghafy of Riceville, Ia.; Mrs. P.A. Turgeon of Anoka, Minn.; Irene Halfmann of Los Angeles, Cal., and Leo Halfmann of Camp Cooke, Cal.

Surviving Mr. Halfmann are the bereaved wife and three children: Sgt. Leo D. [sic] Halfmann of Camp Cooke, Cal.; Irene, employed with the Douglas Aircraft Co. at Los Angeles, Cal., and Paul, at home. Several sisters and brothers also survive, including John Halfmann of Salem, Ore.; Mrs. Anton Snyder of Melrose, Minn.; Mrs. August Kraemer of Campbellsport, Wis.; Phillip [sic] Halfmann of Malone, Wis.; Mrs. Joe Hoffmann of Canby, Minn.; Joe Halfmann of Manly, Ia.; George and Hubert of Stacyville; Mike of Manly; Mrs,. Joe Simon of Stacyville; Aloyius [sic] of Stacyville, and Albert, of Campbellsport, Wis. To all of these sorrowing survivors the deepest sympathy of Stephen friends is extended in the hour of their bereavement.
