Minard G. Deeds was the son of Dwight H. Deeds and Elizabeth Garmatter.

He died in Saipan during WWII serving with the 3rd Bat. 25 Marine Fourth Div. 16 Jun 1944 at the age of 24 years.

A graduate of Rawson high school in the class of 1937. He attended and was graduated from Bluffton college in 1943. He was a member of the Rawson United Brethren church.

RITES SATURDAY

Services for Pfc. Minard G. Deeds, (above - photo) USMC, who was killed in action on Saipan, June 16, 1944, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Paul Diller Funeral Home, Bluffton. The Rev. Hillard Camp of North Baltimore will officiate with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery [sic]. Enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1942, Pfc. Deeds was awarded the Silver Star posthumously. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Deeds of Bluffton.
