AFTON, April 29-Arthur Summerfield Farrar, 55, died suddenly Monday morning while on duty as a civilian guard at Woodrow Wilson General Hospital. Mr. Farrar was born in Nelson County, the son of the late Samuel Farrar and Myrtle Critzer Farrar. He served sixteen years in the United States Navy and had resided in Staunton for the past seventeen years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys R. Farrar; a son, Arthur Byron Farrar, employed at the Wayne Manufacturing Company; a daughter, Miss Myrtle Farrar, of Staunton; four sisters, Mrs. Henry Goodwin, of Afton, Mrs. David Lamb, and Mrs. Alex Bush, of Waynesboro, and Mrs. Clark Dodd, of Baltimore, Md. Also eleven brothers survive including Ollie F. Farrar, of Afton, Harry Farrar, of Norfolk, Howard Farrar, of Roanoke, Charles Farrar and Clarence Farrar, of Clifton Forge, Paul Farrar, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Henry Farrar, of Washington, D. C., Glenn Farrar, of Waynesboro, Carroll Farrar, of Norfolk, Robert Farrar, of Afton, and Sam Farrar, of Staunton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from Marquis Methodist Church, Staunton, of which he was a member. Rev. A. O. Lyons, assisted by Rev. Harold H. Fink, conducted the service. Burial was in the Thornrose Cemetery, Staunton.
