Final rites for Mrs. John S. (Lula) Smith, 510 E. Altamaha street, who died Friday (Feb. 10, 1978) at her home were held at the chapel of Paulk Funeral Home at 2:30pm Sunday.
Rev. J.O. Bromlett, Rev. Elmer Golden and Rev. David Fisher officiated and Mrs. James F. Paulk was organist. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were John Robinson Jr., John Hughes, J. David Smith, Lamar Wayne Smith, Shelton Smith and Joe Robinson.
Born March 10, 1879 in Oglethorpe County, she was the former Cynthia Louise Gunter, daughter of the late John Bynum and Dicie Bell Downer Gunter. She was the widow of John Singleton Smith, was a house wife and the oldest member of the Fitzgerald Church of God.
Mrs. Smith had lived in the community since 1925.
Survivors includes:
Five sons, Hoyt Smith, Atlanta, Loony Smith, J.B. Smith and Lamar Smith, Fitzgerald and E.C. Smith, Atlanta.
Seven daughters, Mrs. Dicie Burt, Moddie Smith, Mrs. Lois Parsons, Mrs. Vidalia Owens and Mrs. Irene Hughes, Fitzgerald, Mrs. Lou Robinson, Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Ruby Douglas, Fitzgerald.
A brother, Brewer Gunter, Athens.
Two sisters, Mrs. Odessa Boggs, Stephens, and Mrs. Janie Bailey, Nashville.
Forty-two grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren and several great-great-great-grandchildren also survive.
