MRS. PHILIP ABLER INJURED IN EXPLOSION IN BASEMENT OF ST. CLOUD HOME ON FRIDAY, DIES OF INJURIES TODAY--CLOTHING CAUGHT FIRE AS SHE DASHED FROM BUILDING.
Mrs. Philip Abler, 64 who suffered first, second and third degree burns in a gas explosion in the basement of her home at St. Cloud early Friday morning, died of her injuries at the St. Agnes hospital at Fond du Lac at 12:40 am. today.
The explosion occured at 7:45 a.m. Friday when Mrs Abler plugged in a washing machine in the basement of her home. A leak in gas lines in the Abler home, letting gas accumulate in the basement, is believed to have caused the explosion. The blast ripped out the north wall of the foundation, scattered heavy foundation bricks over a wide area, tore the north wall of the house loose from corner to corner and shoved the entire two-story structure off its foundation.
Mrs. Ablers clothing caught fire as she dashed from the house, her husband, who was in the yard at the time, extinguished the flames from her clothing. She was rushed to St. Agnes hospital in Fond du Lac.
Mrs. Abler was born May 2, 1885 at Calvary, the daughter of Gustave and Margaret Dreifuerst Mihm, and attended school at Mt. Calvary. She was married October 4, 1910, at St. Cloud to Philip Abler.
Survivors are her husband; nine children, Sylvester, Mrs. Bernard Calvey, Mrs. John Baus and Gordon of St. Cloud, Stanley of St. Nazianz, Mrs. Val Baus and Mrs. Joseph Eiring of Kiel, Mrs. Richard Clarek of El Paso, Tex., and Donna Mae at home; 21 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Molly Wehner of st. Cloud, Mrs. Margaret Helf of Sheboygan and Mrs. Henry Abler of Milwaukee.
