Maria received her training at Wycliffe College;
In 1894 she received an A-1 certificate from the Missionary Training College in New York. There, she studied an African language. She did church work in the Chinese community, in the Bowery, in a rescue home for girls. Also worked in the Catskill Mountains, going beyond the church districts to speak to and help the sick and less fortunate people.
In 1897 she entered 'Deaconess House'.
In 1898 she was a missionary at "Girl's School" at Najasaki, Japan for 1 year.
In 1900 she was Girl's Matron in Peigan Indian Reserve at Southern Alberta.

Cause of death -
Advanced myocardial degeneration.
