Ben proudly served in the United States Army from 1943-1946, during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. Ben was a member of the 11th Airborne, 187th GIR.
On October 22, 1949, Ben married Anne Marie Zilis. Together, they had nine children: Joan, John, James, Jerome, Joseph, Janet, Judith, Jeffrey and Joyce.
Employed by Commonwealth Edison, Joliet Station no 9 for over 40 years. Ben was proud of his Polish Heritage, and enjoyed cooking as a hobby, as well as gardening, and travel to Las Vegas and Florida during his retirement. Ben was proud "Papa" to 15 grandchildren at the time of his passing, in 1995.
