Findlay ELMER JOHN "PETE" JOSEPH, 99, died of natural causes Nov. 25, 2004, at his residence. He was born Dec. 3, 1904, in Allen County to Allen Brown and Nancy Jane Driver Joseph, who preceded him in death. On April 19, 1930, he married Ella Mae Whitmore, who preceded him in death. Mr. Joseph was a teacher at Buffton College for five years. In 1927, he began his career as a teacher and a coach at Elida schools. In 1929, he became the superintendent. Five years later, became superintendent at McComb, where he remained for nine years. At that time, he became Hancock County superintendent, a job in which he stayed for 20 1/2 years. He toured Russia with 60 other administrators. He visited and observed schools in Copenhagen, Denmark, Helsinki, Finland; St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia; Tiblisi, Georgia Republic, USSR; Keiv, Ukraine, USSR; Warsaw, Poland; and West Berlin. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Fostoria, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
