Husband of the late Julia Swarthout, Married Sept.15,1785.
===========================================================
Family tradition holds that John died while living with the family of his daughter Margaret Jordan Phelps in Pike, but that he was buried in the family plot on Jordan Hill in Wirt Township of Allegany County. Some 35 years later, when the family plot was abandoned, John was reburied in Mt Hope cemetery, Friendship, in the family plot of his son Jacob, where his inscription (pictured) is on one face of the monument. John's birthplace and early history remain unknown.

Inscription

John Jordan's body was moved to town of Friendship and he was buried on the lot purchased by
his son, Jacob. Jacob's family monument stands tall in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Friendship listing
Jacob, wife, children, etc. and on same site is small stone large enough only to have the name
"father" on it. The large stone added to the John Jordan page is NOT the John Jordan who was
my ggg grandfather, John Jordan
