Rev. Dr. Peter Parker Phillips was born in Georgetown the son of John H. and Emeline W. Phillips. He served as an assistant in mathematics to Professor Simon Newcomb at the United States Naval Observatory. He was a graduate of Columbian College, now known as George Washington University and the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria. He was the rector of Grace Protestant Episcopal Church in Berryville, Virginia. From 1894 until his retirement in 1920, he was the rector of St. Paul’s Protestant Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Virginia. He was a resident of 1657 31st Street. He died at age 78 on Tuesday, September 8, 1931 at night at the University Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia due to a fall about two weeks ago which visiting in Virginia.
He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Norris Phillips, daughter of James L. Norris, who died in 1919. He was survived by a daughter, Edith Sewall Phillips. Services and interment were at Oak Hill Cemetery.
